We Crash - We Bang - We Hurt ourselves
WE CRASH – WE BANG – WE HURT OURSELVES
We crash our cars, our bikes, our boats, our ATV’s to name a few.
We bang our ankles, knees, hips, toes, fingers, elbows, shoulders and head.
We fall, we trip, we slip, and we hurt ourselves.
All of these accidents and other traumatic incidents can break bones, do soft tissue damage and cause nerve interference know as Subluxation.
From our bumps, crashes, slips, trips and falls bones and their joints may become misaligned and nerves can become irritated, pinched, stretched or compressed. When this happens it causes interference in the flow of information and energy from the Central Nervous System I. e. your Brain. When this energy is blocked or interrupted it will cause a variety of symptoms including extreme pain. Sometimes you will experience new pain or worse pain 3 to 6 months to a year following an accident. This is normal and why most car accident victims seek legal help with their bills.
SO – you experienced an accident; you are “Out of Whack” and your muscles hurt because you have soft tissue damage. Get out the ice to stop the swelling and call your Chiropractor. He will open the channels that are compromised, increasing the information and blood flow to the area bringing relief from the pain and speeding the healing process. Soft tissue injuries often require significant rehabilitation. Small adjustments to help with Subluxation and therapies along with Massage for the muscles will bring about a full recovery.
You will find the combination will put you back on your feet and ready to go!
What are you waiting for??? Get out of Pain and Back In Motion

Chiropractic a Family Affair
Chiropractic a Family Affair
A family affair? You mean you can bring children to the Chiropractor? The answer is yes and you absolutely should bring your children to the Chiropractor.
Parents bring children to Dr. Ken Smith DCMS for the typical headaches and back trouble; However children are also getting relief from earaches, colds, sinusitis, colic, asthma, bed wetting, allergies, pains and falls; plus all the little things that happen to us as we grow.
UNDERSTAND:
Chiropractors Do Not treat disease. Chiropractors treat Spinal Nerve Stress. Ok,What is that and how does that help with all those different problems?
Spinal Nerve Stress interferes with the Normal functioning of the Nervous System. The Nervous System as you know controls the Circulatory system, Respiratory System, Digestive System, Muscular System, Skeletal System, Hormonal, Eliminative and Immune Systems. It can weaken Internal Organs and Organ systems, lower resistance, reduce healing capabilities and set the stage for sickness and disorders of all kinds when compromised.
When the Chiropractor frees the Nervous System from Spinal Nerve Stress the healing power of the body is unleashed. The Immune System functions properly and efficiently, your resistance to disease increases and your body functions on a much more efficient level. Now your body can respond to environmental stress such as germs, changes in temperature, toxins, pollen etc.
Since the Nervous System controls all functions of the body any interference to it can have a wide range of effects.
So how do babies and small children have spinal nerve stress? Physical Nerve Stress can start in the womb. Well for instance lying in a distorted or twisted manor, a traumatic or difficult birth which can traumatize an infant’s skull, spinal column and pelvis. All through a child’s life they fall, they bump, they twist and even though the pain goes away the damage or misalignment, or nerve stress continues as the child grows. This affects the child’s Nervous System.
All children and adults function better with 100% nerve function.
Chiropractic for kids is safe, natural, gentle effective and it does not MASK symptoms allowing more damage to be done.
Our “Chiro Kids” Love their adjustments and even look forward to them.
Help your body to move for efficiently and effectively. You tune up your car…Tune up your Child.

Chiropractic vs Medical Doctors
Chiropractic vs Medical Doctors
A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutic (JMPT) shows that care for low back pain initially seen by a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) saves 40% on health care costs when compared with care initiated through a Medical Doctor (MD)
Low back pain is a serious public health problem. 85% of Americans have back pain of one kind or another at some point in their lives.
Results show that if Insurances companies (BCBS of Tennessee was the Insurance Company tested) would not put restrictions on Chiropractic care they themselves would save $2.3 million dollars. This is the amount saved by BCBS of Tennessee.
We know first hand that our care often helps patients avoid or reduce more costly interventions such as drugs and surgery.
This demonstrates first hand the value of Chiropractic care at a critical time, when our Nation is attempting to reform its health care system and contain Runaway Costs!

WHAT DOES CHIROPRACTIC HAVE TO DO WITH ASPIRIN?
What does chiropractic have to do with Asprin? Believe it or not- chiropractic and asprin have many things in common. First, they can both be traced WAY back in history. In fact, Hippocrates, who used a form of asprin (willow bark) back in 400 B.C., also used a form of spinal manipulation....and so did ancient Egyptians and many other cultures. Just like willow bark and eventually asprin, spinal manipulation got results and became very popular... but the mechanisms were not understood.
But here's where Chiropractic and Asprin differ - in a very big way. Doctors and scientists had no clue how asprin worked - but it was hailed by the medical community as a wonder drug and mass-produced. Doctors and scientists were not sure how Chiropractic worked - so it was branded "unscientific." Seems a little unfair - don't you think? Thank goodness in many areas, research has finally caught up with Chiropractic! For example, Chiropractic's ability to help relieve back pain is well researched. It is a safe, effective and cost-effective way to relieve back pain.
You may wonder how Chiropractic works. Many times when you have back pain it is caused by a spinal joint sprain - or "subluxation." Ligaments hold two bones together to form a joint and a sprain occurs when a ligament is injured by over stretching. This can happen due to small micro traumas over several years or one acute event like a car accident, sports injury or slip and fall. When the ligament becomes stretched and injured joints do not function properly, delicate nerve fibers can be injured. Over time, even if untreated, pain can go away even though the spinal joint is not functioning properly. This can lead to flare-ups in the future degeneration as the joint moves improperly and wears out. This is why something so small - like bending over to pick up a pencil - can cause severe back pain. Chiropractic adjustments and treatments are designed to normalize spine motion as much as possible. This allows the spinal joints to heal better.
At our office, we specialize in athletic injuries and work on area high school athletes from Spanish Fort to Fairhope. The techniques used to treat common knee, shoulder and elbow conditions can also be applied to the general population.

Cold Laser Treatment
I first learned about the Cold Laser Treatment when I started working for Dr. Smith at Back in Motion Chiropractic and Acupuncture. I had read many great things about it being used in sports injuries with lots of success with things like sprains, strains or contusions, but i had none of those, so I never related it to me. All I had was chronic knee pain and the doctors didn't know why. But one day, I asked Dr. Smith what he thought, and he decided to try it on different points all around my knees. Ever since Dr. Smith decided to use the Cold Laser treatment on my knees I have been pain-free as long as I maintain the treatment, which is about every 2-3 weeks. I would recommend this treatment to anyone! It is a great non-invasive, pain free solution to try.

Body and mind publication
A correlation study of 585 children in a public School district found significant correlations between IM score and academic performance in reading, mathmatics, language, science, social studies, and study skills. The reseachers concluded that timing and rythmicity play a foundational role in the cognitive processes underlying performance in theese academic areas. They also found that timing has statistically significant correlations with age, physical coordination/motor skill, paying attention during class, and the ability to attend over a period of time. The results were published by the High Scoops Foundation, a non-profit educational research institution.
